Tiger pep band keeps the beat at the 'Big Dance'

(WMC-TV) - The Tigers and their fans are pumped up for their game against Michigan State Saturday – but it won't be an easy game, especially since they are playing in Michigan.

It will be the third round of the NCAA tournament. It is basically a home game for the Spartans which means Tiger fans will have the challenge of keeping it loud inside The Palace.

Thankfully, the Memphis Pep Band made the trip, and is ready for that challenge.

Every band has a beat, and every beat starts with a drummer.

"If I give energy to the band, they give energy to the team, who in turn take that energy and try to go out and win a game," said Drummer Casey Triplett.

Triplett and 50 others from the Memphis Pep Band traveled to Auburn Hills this week given a chance to bring the Tiger environment to The Palace.

"That's where all the energy comes from, the basketball team, the energy from the fans stand up and clapping. There's lots of support all the time, it's great," said Band member Mark Bonner who plays Trombone.

And with Michigan State getting somewhat of a home team advantage on Saturday, the band members are taking their job serious.

"As soon as the first fan walks in we just work to get them pumped and excited for what happens," said Triplett.

The pep band will lead Tiger fans in another pep rally Saturday morning at the Sommerset Inn. Any Tiger fans making the trip is welcome to attend, and of course you can catch a glimpse of them on national television Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
