MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Police have new developments in the murder of a 19-year-old restaurant employee who was stabbed to death while on the job over the weekend. His SUV that was stolen after the murder reappeared at the scene of the crime Wednesday, according to police.
According to the report, the incident happened around 4 a.m. at the El Toro Loco Bar and Grill on Kirby Road.
Customers showed up at the restaurant Saturday only to find out it was closed for the day.
"It was a shock, because I was looking forward to getting a taco salad," said customer Dolly Nabors.
Nabors was even more shocked to find out why the restaurant was closed.
Memphis police said an employee, 19-year-old Aaron Vazquez, was stabbed to death as he was dumping the trash outside building.
Vazquez then stumbled back inside and collapsed.
"We were closing, we were cleaning the restaurant," said restaurant manager Juan Romo.
Romo said the crime happened long after business hours and no customers were ever in danger.
Still it was chilling news for those who frequent the popular Mexican bar and grill.
"Well this is a wonderful restaurant. It caters to families and little children, and of course they have a bar business late at night," said property owner Walter Willis.
Many El Toro Loco employees are still struggling with the fact that someone they worked with has been murdered.
"When I found out I thought it was not true. I still don't believe it, but unfortunately it is," said employee Nancy Bravo.
El Toro Loco employees said Vazquez's true love was music. He was a sophomore in college. Employees said he was getting ready to quit working at the restaurant this month and focus more on his studies.
While loyal diners convey their sympathy to the family of the murdered victim, they remain on edge because the killer is still on the loose.
Vasquez's Rav 4 vehicle that was stolen after his murder was recovered Wednesday behind the restaurant in same location of the murder. Police believe the vehicle was stolen after the murder and was recently returned to the same location of the crime.
