Two workers attacked, one killed, behind shopping center

(WMC-TV) - Two seemingly random incidents, one of which turned deadly, happened just doors down from each other and just hours apart. Now, police are searching for the suspects involved keeping in mind that it could be the same person.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, an employee at New China stepped out back to smoke a cigarette when he was attacked. His throat was slashed.

"Just hold his head, cut it. No talk. Nothing else," said Steve Jiang, who is also an employee at the restaurant.

Paramedics rushed Jiang's coworker to The MED where he was treated and released.

Around 3:45 a.m. the next morning, just a few doors down at El Toro Loco, 19-year-old Aaron Vasquez stepped out back to toss out the garbage. That is when he was stabbed to death.

No one has been arrested and police acknowledge they are investigating the possibility that the same person attacked both men.

Regardless, security now circles the shopping center parking lot with extra vigilance.

Jiang is hoping for a swift conclusion.

"Yeah, as soon as possible, man," he said. "This dangerous person. That's sick. Sick. Crazy."

The New China employee is recovering at home.

Coworkers say Vasquez was on the verge of quitting work to focus more on school.

If you have any information about the attacks, call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
