A man who worked as a custodian in a Rutherford County middle school is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old student.

Ronald Lewis, 51, is charged with one count of offensive and provocative touching.

Lewis was fired March 20 from Whitworth Buchanan Middle School before the investigation was completed, because police said Lewis allegedly texted a female student at the school.

According to investigators, in text messages with the female student, Lewis asked her "if he could be her boyfriend," and said he loved her.

Lewis is set to appear for a hearing April 15.
