(WMC-TV) - There are no classes Friday at Germantown High School because of the Easter holiday, but many students are waking up to news that they lost another classmate.

The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Himyar Hassan. He was a junior at Germantown High junior.

Police were called out to a house on the 8200 block of Tulip Rose Drive around 10 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found Hassan with one gunshot wound to the chest. He died on the scene.

Investigators believe the teen was handling a loaded weapon and accidentally shot himself in the chest. It has not yet been determined where Hassan got the gun.

The news comes one day after another Germantown student was killed in a car accident.

Christion Hess died after veering off of the road, hitting a tree and a fence.

"To have two deaths in a student body at Germantown High in two days, that's almost more than anybody can bear, and its gonna be tough and we extend our prayers at this difficult time," said Chip Washington, Shelby County Sheriff's Office public information officer.

Germantown High School Principal Ted Horrell sent the following note to his staff:

"While it does not feel like it could possibly be true, another member of our student body was killed last night in what is being described by police as an accidental shooting. Himyar Hassan was an 11th grade student who was born in Yemin and took ESL classes along with his regular schedule for the last two years.

Himyar's brother, Sakher Hassan, is also a student at GHS. He is in the 9th grade and reportedly went to a neighbor's house for help after the shooting. The details of the accident are unclear at this time.

I'm sorry to share more tragic news with you, and my heart is breaking for our school and students as I'm sure yours are. I will pass on arrangements for both Chris Hess and Himyar as they are finalized and released."
