Bracelets remember fallen officer

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - A community is working on a special dedication to fallen Memphis Police Officer Martoiya Lang, as the custody battle over her children heads back to court Monday.

"Just keep the whole family in prayer, especially the girls," said Lang's cousin Neicy Moore.

The unique tribute to Lang's legacy is easing the family's pain, after Lang died carrying out a drug warrant right before Christmas last year.

"Our bracelets are WWLD, What Would Lang Do?" said Moore.

Officers and family members have started wearing the special bracelet in Lang's honor.

"We see police officers that do wear them, such as her teammates, Team 6, and her lieutenant wears one," said Moore.

The bracelet also has Lang's birth date and her end of watch date. "Rest In Peace Team 6 Detective M. Lang" is on the back of the bracelet.

"It feels really nice to have them to be a part of us, and for them to stand behind us as they go through what we're going through," said Moore.

The family returns to court Monday when a judge will hear from roughly a dozen witnesses. Lang's mother, Vivian Taylor, is seeking custody of Lang's four daughters.

So is Lang's estranged husband, Darius, the father of three of the girls. Also, the daughters' maternal grandfather hopes to gain custody of one of the girls.

Through all of this, Moore has one hope for Lang's daughters.

"It's just for them to have nurturing support and for them to move forward," she said while sharing no one can replace their mother.
