(WMC-TV) - April 4 marks one of the dark days in our country's history, specifically in Memphis' history. Thursday is the 45 anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination.

The Commercial Appeal is aiming to bring history to life with a modern narrative and fresh perspective on the civil rights icon's last 32 hours.

On the anniversary, the Commercial Appear will launch a special section in its paper and on its website called "6:01". That is what time Dr. King died.

"It's really a modern narrative, a re-telling of an old story that we hope adds life to this old history that we all know so well," explained Marc Perrusquia, The Commercial Appeal. "The idea is trying to bring that very tragic moment to our readers."

Perrusquia continued, "We've done a lot of interviews, Dr. King's staff, surviving members, Andrew Young, Jesse Jackson, members of The Invaders, this militant group that was in Memphis at the time."

With fresh interviews on a familiar topic, along with pictures and videos from that time, the reader and viewer can go in-depth in the print edition and be a part of an interactive presentation with a new web page.

"We hope through the visual telling and through the narrative of this to try and bring this to life this story of Dr. King and the pressure he faced that day. It is amazing," added Perrusquia.

The narrative is about the final 32 hours of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life and everything and everyone surrounding him.
