Redbirds kick off season with potential for new owner

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Redbirds are kicking off the season with rain in the forecast, but a possible sale in the forecast as well.

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, the Cardinals are moving forward in negotiations to acquire their farm team from the nonprofit group that currently owns it.

The Cardinals made an attempt to buy the Redbirds four years ago, but withdrew the offer.

In addition to the potential sale of the team, the City of Memphis is considering buying Autozone Park and leasing it to the Cardinals investor group.

This news came on the same day that the Memphis Redbirds plan to open their season against the Oklahoma City RedHawks.

The tentative roster for opening night was announced Tuesday.

Three of the top six prospects for the St. Louis Cardinals will open the season in Memphis.

The Redbirds highlight Oscar Traveras, Kolten Wong, Michael Wacha, Seth Maness, Eric Fornataro, Jermaine Curtis, Greg Garcia, and Jamie Romak in its opening roster.
