6 arrested for rash of burglaries in Tipton Co.

(WMC-TV) - Six people are now behind bars up in Tipton County.  Deputies say they are responsible for a recent rash of home burglaries and they were all caught in the act.

The Tipton County Sheriff's Department says thieves are coming to Tipton County from Shelby County, stealing residents' property, and then trying to sell that property in and around Memphis.

"Welcome to crime. It's coming to a neighborhood near you. We don't have to live in the city anymore," said Brighton resident David Copeland.

Copeland enjoys living along peaceful Brighton-Clopton Road.  He says it is not your typical high crime area.

"I'm home during the day and it makes a difference who's going to be knocking at your door," he said.

Copeland says he noticed a strange car at the house across the street last Thursday.

On Friday, sheriff's deputies charged three adults and one juvenile for several break-ins across Tipton County.

Deputies say the men took everything from flat screen TV's to video games and jewelry.

"Skipping school and going and breaking into houses. That was it," added Chief Donna Turner, Tipton County Sheriff's Office.

Last week, sheriff's deputies arrested another two men for similar burglaries.

Chief Donna Turner says the second set of men were pulling electric meters from houses and cutting home alarms.

In all, there have been 46 burglary cases reported in Tipton County since January.

"One way we know we have the right folks is if these type of burglaries stop and they have in these instances," said Chief Turner.

Chief Turner says the four arrested on Friday could face additional charges as their investigation continues.
