(WMC-TV) - Four Mid-South contestants are hoping to become the next "Voice".

The hit NBC singing competition is back this week with battle rounds.

During the battle rounds, contestants will sing a duet with another competitor.  The winner moves on, the loser goes home.

"Right before I walked out I just took a deep breath," said Sarah Simmons. "Paul played piano and I was oh my gosh I'm really here."

Simmons is among the students at the Visible Music College in Memphis.  Students receive instruction with Christian guidance.

The performance that pushed her to the battle round was Joan Osborne's "One of Us".

"It's good to see someone like Sarah with a heart who actually wants to share her heart," said Melanie Nettle of the Visible Music College. "It's good to see someone who actually wants to do that."

Simmons family could not contain themselves during her first performance on "The Voice".

Her song choice asked serious questions about the existence of a greater power, performed with a passion that gave her school friends goose bumps.

"She is amazing," said Kyle Bors-Koefoed, also of the Visible Music College. "The second I heard she was going for the voice I thought, 'Sarah just won.'"

"She can do anything. She can sing any kind of music. I know she loves lyrical content," said Nettles. "I know that matters to her she is a great song writer. "

It is a skill her friends hope "The Voice" will help her show the world.
