Search continues for missing teacher

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Students and staff at a missing Germantown teacher's school are holding a vigil in hopes that she will be found safe.

Heather Palumbo-Jones, 33, teaches kindergarten at Frayser Achievement Elementary School. Friday was the last day anyone at the school saw her.

Germantown police launched a missing persons investigation on Monday. They have spent time combing the area near the teacher's home near Poplar Avenue and Kirby Road.

Palumbo-Jones started teaching with Memphis City School, then transferred when the Achievement School District took over.

Students and staff had a moment of silence for her before planning a private vigil Thursday.

"Certainly heavy hearts and intense focus though on the kids and their needs and maintaining a business as usual type focus in our classrooms," said Elliott Smalley, Achievement School District. "That's what the teachers are focused on right now."

The Action News 5 investigators discovered Palumbo-Jones and her estranged husband are separated and filed for divorce.

Right now, he is working to get custody of their two children.

The Germantown Police Department says they have no new information regarding the search. If you have any information, please call GPD at (901) 757-7338.
