Pregnant mother, children hospitalized after house fire

(WMC-TV) - A pregnant mother and three children are recovering after their house went up in flames Thursday morning.

When fire crews got to the scene, the family was safely outside of the home thanks to neighbors who ran to help.

"And so I saw the younger kids beating on the windows trying to get out and you know their door was on fire," said neighbor Banderas Walker.

She and the pregnant mother broke out a window. That is when she and other neighbors ran over and helped lift the children out of a window.

"So a man, he went in and got two of them, and I grabbed one out the window and took them to a neighbor's house," said Walker.

The house next door also suffered some fire and smoke damage. Those residents also got out safely.

Martin Veasey is the husband of the pregnant woman and father of the children. He cried when he came home and saw all the damage. But afterwards he is thankful everyone made it out alive.

The family was at the hospital all in non-critical condition Thursday morning.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire but they said the home burned very quickly.

The home is located on the 4400 block of Medley Lane.
