A look ahead: Man paralyzed by seat belt fights Ford

(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South 6-year-old and his family never saw it coming. Billy Meals was in the backseat of a car when it was hit by a drunk driver. The crash killed his father and grandfather.

A seat belt saved Billy's life, but it also paralyzed him from the waist down.

"Growing up without a father, that's probably the hardest," he explained. "That's harder than being in a wheelchair 'cause your father is someone you look up to, you know. Every kid looks up to his dad."

But Billy is a fighter and what he did after that crash has made us all safer.

On Action News 5 at 10 p.m., find out why we should all be looking up to Billy.

You will think about Billy's story each time you buckle up.
