Teen shot, killed while riding bike

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - A 15-year-old who was a freshman at Melrose High School was shot outside a Memphis church while riding his bike Monday. This is the second time a teenager has been shot time in a matter of weeks.

Memphis police issued an arrest warrant for an 18-year-old suspect in last week's shooting of a 15 year-old girl. Meanwhile, Tuesday's shooting may already be solved.

Mount Olive Baptist Church at Spottswood Avenue and Pendleton Street in Orange Mound drew a massive crowd Monday afternoon.

Hundreds watched as police began investigating the murder of a 15-year-old boy in the middle of the street.

Friends and family identified the victim as Carderius Webb, known in the neighborhood as "Lil' Dude". He was shot and killed while riding his bicycle.

"He always be by himself riding his bike. And to see something like this, you know I got kids, it really scares you," said family friend Desi Riley.

Memphis Police took a woman into custody shortly after the shooting. There was no information about a possible motive.

Neighbors said the woman lives in a house right across the street from the church.

It appeared multiple shots were fired by judging by the bullet casings marked by little yellow signs.

"I know him from the neighborhood, he was a good child, he wasn't bad at all, and he was respectful," said family friend Rodney Wooten.

Fellow Melrose students said Webb played football in middle school, and was well known throughout the Orange Mound community.

The principal at Melrose High School sent an email to staff informing them of Webb's murder.

He said grief counselors will be on hand Tuesday, along with heightened security.
