Fans brave Music Fest despite cold weather

(WMC-TV) - Most Memphians know that dealing with rain during Music Fest is nothing new, but no one expected frigid weather Friday.

This year is perhaps the coldest it has ever been, according to fans who refused to let Mother Nature derail their annual plans.

"This is the coldest it's ever been since I've been coming," said music fan Melanie Martin.

While some people were committed to the outfits they picked out for warmer weather, other came prepared with heavy coats, gloves and earmuffs.

"We've been watching all week, and everyday it just kept getting a little colder and a little wetter," said music fan Terri Ward.

Bobby Crafford of legendary rockabilly band Sonny Burgess and The Pacers, who have been around since the glory days of Sun Studios, said they are prepared for the weather, too.

"Being older, we get cold easy, and we don't like the cold. I told them they better pack a heavy coat," said Crafford.

He said once people get moving to the music then they will likely warm up.

Many of the folks entering this gate even brought extra blankets.
