(WMC-TV) - A man who is making a miraculous recovery after being hit by a car credits virtual church for his incredible progress.

Michael Owens lost both of his legs when he was hit by a car while changing a flat tire. With each step Michael Owens now takes, he remembers the night he almost lost his life.

"The only thing I was thinking about is just trying to survive," he said.

That bizarre accident changed his life forever, but not his faith.

"I was going to church every Sunday, every Tuesday, and Thursday when it was arts and crafts," said Owens. "That's why the accident happened on a Wednesday, the devil got mad."

Now, his church, New Direction Christian Church, is helping him.

"No matter where you are, no matter what condition you're in, you're able to see what happens here," said Innovation Pastor ShaMichael Hallman.

Each Sunday, Michael logs on to New Direction's Virtual Church through a hospital computer.

Interacting with pastors and church members, he says he finds strength in their prayers.

"Jesus is real. When I look at everybody, I see a part of God smiling. And to have the positive energy by people I haven't even met," said Owens.

"It really just kind of warms our heart to hear somebody say that," added Hallman. "It does take a lot to pull it off but when you hear those stories, it makes it all worth it."

The virtual church gives Owens and others all over the world a chance to interact from wherever they might be. Pastors appear on the screen and chat throughout the service.

"It's an experience that is unique to New Direction Christian Church," said Hallman. "You're not the only person that's watching online. There are other people from all over. And that kind of common bond, that says 'Hey, we are connected to New Direction no matter where we are.'"

It is a free connection that Michael considers, at this stage in his life, priceless.

"I ain't above the bar, I can't walk on water but with faith you can," said Owens.

New Direction's Virtual Church is open Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights.
