Police: Man met teen online, threatened him with gun

(WMC-TV) - Police say he pretended to be a police officer in order to threaten a teenager. Now, Rico Wooten is locked up at 201 Poplar, thanks to a vigilant neighbor.

Neighbor Bernice Golden is in constant pain as a result of Rheumatoid arthritis, so she stays at home. But she still keeps a close eye on her street.

Around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, she noticed a strange car parked in the driveway next door.

"I peeped out my window and it was so far back and I said, 'What the... What's going on?'" said Golden. "You see something like that you don't know what's going on."

She called 911.

Wooten told police he was looking for his sister. The teen told police he had met Wooten in a chat room.

According to an affidavit of complaint, Wooten then picked up the teenager from home, pointed a gun in his face, told him he was a police officer, and threatened to arrest him for prostitution.

Though unaware of the end result of what she had seen and called about, Golden says she will remain vigilant about anything suspicious on Speed Street.

"See they can break in here on you and then they can turn around and kill you and leave you up in here," said Golden.

Wooten is charged with aggravated assault and criminal impersonation. His bond is set at $20,000. He will appear in court Thursday.
