Adulticiding mosquitoes on Thursday, August 26, 2004

The Memphis and Shelby County Health Department's Vector Control Section will begin adulticiding (spraying) in portions of specific zip codes between 9:00 p.m. and midnight tomorrow (Thursday August 26, 2004), weather permitting, and will continue on Tuesday night, August 31st through Thursday, September 2nd, if necessary. It is important to note that if weather conditions are not favorable, including wind speed, spraying will be delayed.

The areas to be sprayed were chosen based upon mosquito surveillance. Presence of high number of Culex mosquitoes (trap counts) and the identification of West Nile Virus infected mosquitoes and birds indicate increased risk of human infection. Spraying will be conducted in these areas to reduce that risk.

Spray trucks will be in portions of the following zip codes: 38103, 38104, 38105, 38107, 38108, 38109, 38111, 38112, 38114, 38116, 38117, 38118, 38122, 38127 and 38128.
