Southaven mayor takes no blame after primary

(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis said do not blame him for any backlash that may have led three aldermen to lose their seats Tuesday night.

"There were others, who were my very large adversaries, who also came in very distant seconds," said Davis.

He admitted it is not a good time for incumbents. He believes a spending scandal and resulting indictment were the result of a team effort.

"I think there are a lot of things that should have been handled in house and talked about in house. They weren't we're dealing with them, and the results are what they are," said Davis.

In Southaven, alderman Randall Huling lost, as did longtime alderman Lorine Cady and Rickey Jobes. William Brooks and Ronnie Hale went to runoffs, and the only outright winner was George Payne.

"Well, it's just the movement right now. People are unhappy with Washington. People are unhappy with the city of Southaven," said Cady.

Cady's 28 year career on the board of aldermen ended Tuesday night..

While Ronnie Hale was one of two sent by voters to a runoff.

"They're angry at what's going on with the mayor's office and everything too. And lumping us all into being guilty and that's not quite the case," said Hale.

Davis said he does not think the responsibility can go to just one individual.

Davis has been at the center of a spending scandal for more than a year. He goes on trial next week.

Alderman Greg Guy did not seek re-election.

The biggest disappointment last night may have been the turnout which was estimated at around 20 percent.
