Miss. River flows just below flood stage

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - The Mississippi River is flowing at a high level, leading some to wonder if it will flood again.

"Just look at how wide the river is right now," said Jim Marchbanks, who lives in Memphis.

The water is several feet higher than usual, taking away green space from those at the Mississippi River Greenbelt Park.

The high waters make it difficult to walk along the riverfront, but it is not causing concern from residents, yet.

Don Rosier is visiting from Washington, D.C. He could not help but notice the high river.

"The river is very high, very wide and swiftly moving," he said.

While people near the Mississippi River hope the water stays down so they can continue enjoying the riverfront, many don't think it will get much higher.

The current river lever in Memphis is 33.8 feet. Flood stage is 34 feet.
