Grizzlies, fans hope history will not repeat itself in game four

(WMC-TV) - Grizz Nation is fired up about game four of the semi-finals series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Memphis is leading the best of seven series 2-1 heading in to Monday night's game.

Two years ago, the Grizzlies were in the same position with the Thunder and game four proved to be the pivotal game that many say turned the series in the Thunder's direction.

"We were a little green in terms of playoff experience at that time and didn't maybe appreciate the situation the way we do now," said Jonathan May, author of the blog. "But I think all-in-all, it's pretty similar to what we are experiencing today."

May was in the Grindhouse two years ago when Memphis was leading the series 2-1.

"I think actually that year, that game won the ESPY for best game of any sport for the year," he said. "I don't think that night I or the fan base generally appreciated how significant it was going to be."

The Grizzlies lost that game 133-123, which tipped the home court advantage back to the Thunder. Eventually, Oklahoma City won the series.

"The players that were here two years ago, in the back of their mind they remember the situation they were in that they let it slip away and what that ended up costing them," added May.

Now two years later, Memphis beat the Clippers, who ousted them last year and Monday night sets up as another pivotal game to get revenge.

This year feels different at least to one Grizz fan.

"I think that the maturity of this team and also the landscape of the NBA playoffs as they stand, people are starting to think this team is capable of doing something much more special than making it to the conference semis," said May.

A different outcome Monday night means a different team could be heading to the Western Conference finals in 2013.
