(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis' partner, Jansen Fair, likes to stay in the background.

"I love Greg. It's hard on me seeing him go through it, but that's what you have to do," said Fair.

He said sometimes it is hard being with someone who is high profile and under investigation.

"We can't even go grocery shopping without strangers looking, taking pictures. You hear whispers. I've lost friends over it," said Fair.

The state subpoenaed Fair to testify in Greg Davis' civil trial in Jackson, MS. Fair has a theory why.

"Obviously, I was the only gay guy called, and the only person who went on trips ... Everybody else had friends and significant others," he said.

A photo from Fair shows a trip to Las Vegas for a retail recruitment conference. It shows Davis and Fair in the middle, alderman William Brooks on the right with his friend, alderman Ronnie Hale on the left, and the rest are businessmen.

Fair waited outside the courtroom Thursday only to find out the state decided not to call him. He thinks he knows his purpose to the state.

"I think I was just up there for embarrassment, or to keep the gay card out there, or to keep you know, here's Greg Davis partner, who you know there's an age difference. Let's be honest about it. Some people don't like that. It's the only thing I can think of," said Fair.

Jansen Fair is 28, and Greg Davis is 47.

This was Fair's first ever interview.

The man in red likes to take things - a mower and weed eater from one home, change and a cell phone from someone's unlocked truck, even a little red wagon, and a 2-year-old's lunch box. Neighbors said the thief wears all red and a home surveillance camera caught him as he peered into 2-year-old Willia's backyard where she stored her little red wagon.
