(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is back on the stand and became choked up while talking about his issues with his wife during his spending trial.

Friday was the fifth day of the trial. Davis was on the stand to speak about why he and his wife needed counseling.

"There was a time actually in L.A. when my wife, actually ex-wife, sent me a letter of suicide," he said. "Obviously everything that was going on with me in my life and the strain on the family, being a mayor's wife and the first lady."

Davis also was dealing with fact that he is gay. His partner was subpoenaed by the state to testify but was never called. Jansen Fair thinks he knows his purpose to the state.

"I think I was just up there for embarrassment or to keep the gay card out there, here's Greg Davis' partner," Fair said in his very first interview with Action News 5.

Davis was reimbursed for the counseling but paid the city back for his wife's counseling. Davis also testified about expenses that were reimbursed, having explanations and documentation for most of it.

Davis' team had a long list of witnesses to call including, most of whom are Southaven aldermen. They decided much of what they wanted to bring out came from witnesses called by the state.
