Gang members convicted of first-degree murder

(WMC-TV) - Members of two Memphis gangs were convicted yesterday of first degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and criminal attempt to commit voluntary manslaughter.

Cedric Mims, 17, and Allen Craft, 18, shot and killed Ronald Ellington and wounded two others during a December 2011 robbery near Downtown Memphis.

Mims is a member of the "Goon Squad" and Craft is a member of the "Grape Street Crips."

The two planned to rob three men outside a store at 345 South Fourth on December 3, 2011.

Mims approached the driver, demanded and took $40 cash, and shot him in the leg. Ellington was in the passenger seat and a third man who came to his aid was also hurt.

The defendants were automatically sentenced to life for the murder, and will face additional time for the other two felonies.
