Flooding hits Hall County roads, leaving neighbors stranded

HALL COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Nearly eight inches of rain fell Saturday night in Hall County, and residents woke up to many flooded roads.

But for the families living off of Trudy Drive, flooding was so severe that it ripped apart the road, which resident Steve Lingle said is the only way in and out of the area.

"We just kind of feel like we're landlocked a little bit," Lingle said.

Workers spent most of Sunday replacing a pipe and temporarily fixing up the road so that it would be passable by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, across the county, a quarter-of-a-mile of State Route 13 was shut down, covered in several feet of water which overflowed from Lake Lanier, according to Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope.

"Right now our problem is Lake Lanier, literally," Pope said. "The drainage pipes underneath the roadway are covered with feet of water, there was nowhere else for the water to go."

When the water receded by 11 p.m., workers washed the silt off of the roads, and tested them to make sure they were safe to drive on. The road was set to open by midnight Monday.
