Company expansion brings 100 more jobs to Memphis

(WMC-TV) - A Canadian company announced that are adding hundreds of jobs to its North Memphis office. Kruger Products rolled out the red carpet Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the expansion.

Kruger P manufactures paper, tissue, and lumber among other things. Now, they are celebrating a $316 million expansion that could bring tens of millions back into the Memphis economy.

"The incomes that are spent from jobs that are here move through our economy anywhere from three to four times," said Greater Memphis Chamber President John Moore.

"This plant was closed at one time and so to think about 500 jobs and a $300 million investment for a closed plant, that's a big difference," said Governor Bill Haslam.

More than 100 new workers have been hired here for Kruger's new production line. That brings the employee count to approximately 500, making Kruger the largest industrial building in the state.

A major part of the expansion included the start up of a new air dried tissue machine, that will allow this North Memphis plant to produce some of the highest quality tissue in North America.

Chamber officials say this is more than likely not the last expansion for Kruger Products.
