(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Police Department director said idle threats are uncalled for between his employees. Toney Armstrong discussed the firings of two officers accused of threatening comments to fellow officers Thursday.

Marc Henderson, 32, and Parker Culver, 29, were said to be upset about the 4.6 percent city employee pay cut.

They were officially terminated Wednesday for personal conduct and aid to violate regulation.

"We live in a time in the U.S. now that we have to take all threats extremely seriously," said Armstrong. "A lot of work stoppage type things, a lot of references to the strike of 1978."

One of many topics discussed Thursday about the firing included a possible takeover of the weapons room at the Ridgeway Station precinct.

"We just felt that was not conducive to a healthy work environment," said Armstrong.

Armstrong said the investigation revealed one of the officers posted his grievances on YouTube, and later claimed it was his first amendment right to do so.

Armstrong agrees, to a certain degree.

"There's a certain amount of responsibility that comes with that," he said.

Culver has been on the force since 2009, and Henderson since 2011.

Both officers are expected to argue their termination.

Action News 5's attempts to the officers them were unsuccessful.
