(WMC-TV) - People nationwide gathered in downtown Memphis Saturday for a basketball game, music, and to enjoy to spirit of Beale Street.

A street party outside FedExForum to celebrate game three of the Western Conference Finals series with the Grizzlies against the spurs began mid-afternoon.

Around that time, many made the trip to Tom Lee Park to listen to the annual Sunset Symphony.

With thousands piling downtown, parking got a tricky.

One parking attendant said he expected to have a full lot by 6 p.m.

As far as street closures go, MPD closed off Third Street from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Peabody Place for the block party. Police said Beale Street and Peabody place will be blocked off starting at Front Street.

Grizzlies fans overwhelmed the downtown area early Saturday as the countdown to the game began. Although, a few Spurs fans made the trip to Memphis downtown, too.

Spurs fan Connor Smith said Grizz fans playfully gave him a rough time.

"They've been telling me, y'all aren't going to win in Memphis, y'all can't win a game in Memphis ... It's a hard place to win in, but I think we could get one in at least," said Smith.

Smith and his family made the drive from outside Jackson, Mississippi.

Another family drove 11 hours from San Antonio, and the first thing on their agenda included getting Memphis barbecue.

"We're going to go try to find some Memphis barbecue, and see if we can find some other Spurs fans that made the same travel from Texas, we're just here to have a good time," said Spurs fan Fabian Carr.

Fans on both sides got serious after game's tipoff. A big screen outside FedExForum showed the biggest basketball game so far in Memphis.

It captured everyone's attention as Grizzlies fans watched their team get off to a roaring start.

The crowd stayed loud and cheered until the final buzzer.
