(WMC-TV) - On Election Day in Southaven, voters head to the polls in a mayoral race that could unseat embattled mayor Greg Davis.

Voters trickled in as they left work Tuesday evening. Polls were open until 7 p.m., and the morning saw a fairly large turnout.

The people of Southaven came to the polls ready to put their opinions on the ballot.

Southaven, Mississippi just topped 50,000 people. Current Mayor Greg Davis has been in the position for 16 years and is running as an independent against Darren Musselwhite and Coria Williams.

Democratic candidate Coria Williams is a former Memphis Police officer and teacher. She said public service is at the top of her agenda.

"I like Greg, I like him but me being a democrat, I needed to vote democrat," said voter Marilyn Abram regarding Williams.

Republican candidate Darren Musselwhite has been in business in Southaven for 21 years selling insurance.

All of the candidates expressed interest in plans for a new senior adult building and continued growth.

Davis is in the middle of a civil trial with the state auditor who accuses him of misspending city money.

"Some of the controversies he's got into is a little troublesome, but overall I think he's done a good job I'm probably going to vote for him," said resident Jo Cooper.
