(WMC-TV) - As millions of dollars sink into the rebirth of Overton Square, the iconic intersection at Madison Avenue and Cooper Street is taking shape.

"I'd say this fall we'll see a pretty together and hopping Overton Square even more so than it is now," said Elizabeth Berglund who is helping the redevelopment with Loeb Properties.

In the past few months, new restaurants including Local Gastropub and Bar Louie sprouted up on the square attracting hundreds of people each week.

"We have a yoga studio and we have Breakaway Running coming," said Berglund. "I think the proximity to Overton Park and the bike lanes on Madison make it a really attractive place for wellness and fitness."

Boscos, a square staple, has held its place for years, but now multiple other businesses are inquiring about all the available space – interests include a retail food market.

"We're focused on currently filling the existing spaces before any additional development is done," said Berglund.

As commercial space fills up at Overton square, construction workers have their eyes set on finishing a 450 space parking garage by October.

"We're still working out the pricing internally, but we're hoping to make it very reasonable for the public," said Berglund.

Berglund said hotel and retail developers showed a renewed interest in the old French Quarter Inn. The vacant and overgrown space has been sitting unused on a corner of Overton Square for years.

"It's a great spot obviously so let's hope something happens soon," said Berglund referring to the hotel.

A groundbreaking will begin on the Hattiloo Theatre at Monroe and Cooper Street Saturday.
