Homer man killed in Claiborne Parish crash


A Homer man has died as a result of a crash in Claiborne Parish on Saturday.

Louisiana State Police say it happened just before 10 p.m.on Louisiana Highway 2 Alternate east of U.S. Highway 79.

According to their preliminary investigation, a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 52-year-old Michael Waganer of Homer, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 2 Alternate when it ran off the right side of the road. The Chevrolet traveled into a ditch and struck a tree.

Waganer was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected. He was taken to a hospital in Shreveport, where he died.

State Police say alcohol use is suspected and toxicology samples have been taken for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
