Questions remain about shooting that injured 3-year-old girl

(WMC-TV) - A 3-year-old girl was shot in the leg and police say no one seems to know who shot her, how, or why.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Memphis police were called to St. Francis Hospital on Park Avenue about a strange situation involving a patient.

The little girl's mother brought her to the emergency room. From St. Francis Hospital, the toddler was transferred to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital where she is in non-critical condition.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex on the 5400 block of Meadowlake Drive. Neighbors say they had not heard anything about it until Action News 5 showed up. Apartment complex managers say they were aware of the incident but asked media to leave the property.

Police say the incident report is not available as a public record because the victim is a juvenile.

Action News 5's Nick Kenney will continue to learn more about how the little girl was injured. We will report the latest information as soon as it becomes available to us.
