MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South Navy veteran of almost 20 years is being recognized as a Hall of Fame Dad this weekend at the Memphis Training Camp for Dads.

"Trust me, I can tell you from experience. [Parenting] isn't easy, but there is something for everyone at the training camp for dads," said Germantown resident and Navy chief Jeff Bryant. "Listen to your child and be there for them and it's not easy. It's the hardest job I've ever done in my life."

Bryant has lived all over the world during his 20 year career with the Navy. He came to the Mid-South by choice three years ago.

"We really like it here. We did roughly 12-15 months of research before picking our next duty station. This is an area we really wanted to go to for the hospitality and the cost living," he said.

He and his wife Sonia are both members military and have a 12-year-old son named Zachary.

Bryant's coworkers nominated him as a Hall of Fame Dad. He will be recognized on Saturday at the Memphis Training Camp for Dads.

"Be there for your child every day. Love them and show them that you're there for them and always will be," said Bryant.

Bryant and his family feel honored to get the award and be a part of the event.

"Every day, from someone who's been a dad for a day to someone who's been a dad for 30-40 years, it's just something you can go there, and you can learn and experience something new and just find a better way," said Bryant.

Memphis Training Camp for Dad's is this Saturday morning from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. The event celebrates fatherhood and helps dads learn new ways to be the best father possible. It at the Fogleman Center at the University of Memphis campus and child care will be available.
