Man shot by police faces several charges

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis man who was shot by police is now charged with several crimes.

Joe Willis, 29, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and evading arrest.

Police say he was shot while running away from a house on Wedge Cove that he had allegedly broken into around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Officers say they yelled at Willis to stop. That is when they say he turned and pointed a shotgun at them.

Willis was shot and is now in stable condition.

The officer who fired the shot has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
