Car crashes into Montgomery Co. home; driver flees scene

Police are on the lookout for a man they believe crashed his car into a Southside family's home and then threatened to hurt anyone who called law enforcement.

"Someone could've been seriously injured and obviously could've lost their life," said Chaplain Ted Denny of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. "What aggravates this situation is the subject that was driving the vehicle is now the subject of a manhunt."

The Herrell family told Channel 4 they were at their Mount Herman Rd. home on Sunday when a car veered off into their yard, sped down a hill, drove over a brick incline and crashed into their house. Having never heard such a noise, the Herrells ran outside, where they said neighbor Christopher Bell got out of his car bloodied. They said Bell told them he was drunk and would hurt them if they called police.

Sheriff's officials said Bell's mother showed up to stop her son from starting a fight, apologizing for what happened. Officials said Bell then left his home and has been missing.

Officials add Bell threatened to hurt a family friend if she didn't drive him to the Weems Bridge area to avoid police. Warrants have been taken out for his arrest. We spoke with Bell's family, who said they haven't seen him and didn't want to comment on the warrants for his arrest. Denny said Bell was just released from jail in May for domestic assault.

Today, the Herrell family is left with a gaping hole in their home, cracks in the brick, cinder blocks showing and rubble inside. With thousands of dollars in repairs ahead, they said they want someone held responsible.
