Hendersonville homecoming queen, mother face charges

Posted: Updated:

A graduation party ended with 31 people arrested, including the homeowner and her daughter, the Hendersonville High School homecoming queen.

The family says it was just a party, but police say it was a dangerous gathering that exposed several young people to alcohol.

The Ballantrae subdivision in Hendersonville is a lovely, quiet neighborhood. But witnesses say it was far from that at Lelah Lamb's house the night she celebrated the graduation of her 18-year-old daughter, Sara.

None of their neighbors wanted to speak about this story on camera, saying they want to keep the peace. But they said the Lamb family went door-to-door before the party saying they were planning to have a party and to call them if things get too loud.

It turns out, once the party got started, someone called police.

Police say when they arrived, they were denied access to the home and told the mom wasn't even there.

They arrested Sara Lamb who allegedly admitted she had four or five beers that night, and while she was talking to police, her mother, Lelah, came home.

"She went inside and refused officers' entry into the home, and I think that's what led to her arrest," said Hendersonville police Sgt. Jim Vaughn. "They established probable cause, and did a search warrant. Once they went inside, they found 31 people drinking, all of which were underage."

The officers inside the house knew it was time to call for backup. Among those arrested included a 15 year old, and Lelah Lamb was charged with child neglect for allegedly leaving her 9-year-old child at the house where the kids were allegedly drinking.

"Fortunately, we will never know what could have happened," Vaughn said.

Channel 4 News stopped by the house and talked to people who lived there who said Lelah Lamb was unavailable for comment.

Lelah and Sara Lamb will get to tell their story in court on July 22.
