Officer resigns following absenteeism investigation

(WMC-TV) - Officer Charles Watkins resigned after being accused of violating the Bartlett Police Department's sick policy, according to officials.

A disciplinary charge report said Watkins used his sick leave almost as soon as he earned it. He was habitually absent from work causing coworkers to assume his duties and responsibilities which caused the city to pay out unnecessary overtime.

In a previous report, Watkins said he has his four kids and that he needed some "me" time.

His personnel record indicates a history of problems dating back as early as 2006. A written reprimand noted "an obvious abuse and misuse" of sick time because his "three regular days off are most of the time accompanied by a sick day or two".
