Camp helps children deal with grief

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) – This week a camp was held to help Mid-South families deal with grief; Methodist Hospice hosted Camp Bravehearts.

It's a family grief camp for children ages six to 16 who have lost a loved one over the past two years. Camp organizers say its important kids know someone is there for them.

Camp Director, Mary Elizabeth Jones said, "When they've experienced death of a loved one, being different is forced upon them. So when they come to camp, they realize at least I'm not the only one."

The camp is not only for the children, but also their families. Campers have participated in different activities including creating memory boxes, and climbing a rock wall to face their grief.
