Pastor wins 2013 St. Jude Dream Home

(WMC-TV) – An Orange Mound preacher experienced a Sunday he will not soon forget. It was the day he took the keys to his new home, this year's St. Jude Dream Home.

Pastor James Delaney had no idea his Sunday sermon would speak such truth.

Pastor Delaney said, "Psalm 127, 1 - 5, my sermon title was ‘Let God Build the House‘ and here I am. Thank you, Lord."

As this man of the cloth took the keys and toured his new Eads, TN house, he says he simply felt numb.

"Just got back to town Saturday, got home from church, was getting ready to pull off my clothes to get into bed and somebody called me and said you won a house," said Delaney.

For 23 years, Delaney has been the pastor of the St. John Baptist Church in Orange Mound.

He has long preached to his congregation to donate to St. Jude. He, too, has donated for years.

But, this is the very first year he actually bought tickets to win the St. Jude Dream Home.

His granddaughter, Destinee Delaney said, "I screamed for him. I tried to get him to jump up, but he's so cool, I jumped for him."

"He is just a wonderful guy, dear friend, loves his family, loves the Lord, loves his church family. He's a beautiful person," said church member Clara Sharp.

Delaney says he plans to move into the 4,000 square foot home with his granddaughter. His name was just one of 12,500 entered to win. This pastor says his cup simply runneth over.

"I've determined you can have the best of both worlds, the best of Earth and the best of glory, because that's where I'm going is glory. But in the meantime, I'm gonna enjoy myself here on this earth," said Pastor Delaney.

He doesn't know when he will move into his new home. Delaney says he will more than likely sell his current house to his son.
