Woman involved in standoff with deputies identified

(WMC-TV) - The woman who barricaded herself inside a home has reportedly surrendered to sheriff's deputies. When she went outside into the backyard with her dog, the SWAT team made its move.

"SWAT officers noticed that she was unarmed, set off a flash bomb just to distract her. We were able to subdue her," said Chip Washington, Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

The woman is identified as Jennifer Brook Davis. She was taken to the Memphis Mental Health Institute for an evaluation. She could be charged with aggravated assault among other charges.

The standoff began at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on the 10600 block of Headley Cove after Davis called the sheriff's department and threatened to harm herself.

"She was very emotional," said Washington. "She was very upset."

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Davis is the wife of a Memphis police officer. She fired shots toward deputies, who then returned fire. Nobody was injured in the shootings and nobody was inside the home with her.
