Federal initiative underway to revitalize Frayser

(WMC-TV) - The future looks bright in Frayser thanks to a new federal initiative aimed at investing money and motivating residents. The effort is called "Frayser 2020". The second meeting took place Monday evening.

The newly elected Frayser Neighborhood Council is meeting for the first time at Union Grove Church since the "Frayser 2020" plan was rolled out over the weekend.

"We believe something great is getting ready to take place in Frayser," said neighborhood council president Marron Thomas.

Frayser one of just eight communities nationwide receiving money through President Obama's Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, which aims to empower neighborhoods to improve both aesthetically and economically.

"It's mobilized an entire community," said Pastor Marron Thomas, Frayser Neighborhood Council. "You had people who worked in silos and had a lone ranger mentality and so now this has brought the community together."

The initiative is called "Frayser 2020" because community leaders hope to see significant change over the next seven years.
