(WMC-TV) - A body has been found inside a burned out vehicle near a park in North Memphis.

The vehicle was located at the intersection of Point Church Road and Hawkins Mill Road, east of Davy Crockett Park.

So far, police have not identified the person who was found dead.

People who live in the neighborhood were not surprised by the discovery.

"We get in at night and stay," said Brenda Jenkins. "It's just too easy of a place to come back here and burn out stripped cars, burn them out, leave bodies in the night."

Not far from Tuesday's scene, there was a similar case in July 2006. Two bodies were found in a burning vehicle along Sharon Lane and Cliffdale Street.

Jenkins says it is sad that the wooded areas nearby are a dumping ground for just about everything. She says Memphis police officers do patrol the area.

"They're good about coming through here but it just seems like stuff goes on at night," she said.

Early Tuesday afternoon a tow truck left the scene carrying a vehicle under a blue tarp followed by two MPD vehicles and a Shelby County forensic unit.

Police have yet to release any additional information about the body, leaving neighbors like Jenkins with plenty of questions.

"It's like a city garbage dump out here, and this used to be such a pretty place," she said.

A worker at the city impound said the vehicle was taken to a crime lab.
