Budget debate continues; Fire at a funeral home; Suspect shot by officer

A heated budget debate continues in the Memphis City Council chamber tonight. Action News 5's Jason Miles is at the budget hearing with the latest updates that you can see on WMCTV.COM right now. He will have the full breakdown on what the council discussed tonight on our show.

In addition, multiple other stories are breaking in the Mid-South including a fire at a funeral home. Firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke coming from the Harrison's Orange Mound Funeral home around 6:00 p.m. We will have the latest at 10 p.m.

Memphis police are looking for a missing teen. According to the city watch released this afternoon, 17-year-old Guadalupe Cordoba was forcibly removed from her home in East Memphis by her estranged husband Abelinio Sanchez.

Janice Broach is following a breaking story out of Olive Branch. This afternoon an armed suspect was reportedly shot by an Olive Branch police officer. According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, it all started with an altercation outside of a home in a subdivision.

Also in Mississippi, leaders are sounding off after a shocker was handed down from the U.S. Supreme Court. The nation's high court made a decision that has many questioning the future of voting practices in Mississippi and other southern states.

High temperatures will heat up into the mid 90s Wednesday and Thursday. The afternoon heat index will likely reach 100 degrees. John Bryant will have more on weather tonight in our show.
