Blowout sparks fires along I-20 near Hallsville

HALLSVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

Emergency crews are responding to several grass fires along Interstate 20 near Hallsville.

A truck pulling a horse trailer was traveling westbound on I-20 when the truck had a blowout. The blowout resulted in sparks that ignited six fires along the westbound side of the interstate. Investigators believe that fragments of the tire landed in dry grass along the side of I-20 and sparked the blaze.

These fires stretch from mile markers 605-609. These mile markers are located near Farm-to-Market 450 in Harrison County.

Eight fire units, along with two bulldozers operated by the U.S. Forest Service, are dispatched along the four mile stretch and are trying to smolder the fires.

As of 12:30 p.m., the fire was contained, but some areas are still on fire. Interstate traffic has not been affected.
