(WMC-TV) - The Church of God in Christ will hold its annual convocation in St. Louis for three more years. The nation's largest African-American Pentecostal denomination will head back to Missouri in November.

"Memphis is headquarters for COGIC and COGIC will always love Memphis," said Church of God in Christ Bishop Brandon Porter.

As a native Memphian, Porter says he would have liked to see the convocation return to COGIC headquarters.

"It's not something that sits easy with me. I'd like to see Memphis do more to prepare for conventions like COGIC," he said.

COGIC outgrew Memphis. They say many downtown hotels near St. Louis' America's Center convention hall are already sold out for the 2013 convocation.

"They revere Memphis as our mecca, and they really want the convention back. But they're hoping Memphis will do some things that will make it more convenient for COGIC," he said.

Some of the concerns saints had in Memphis were the high cost air travel and hotels.

"We spent, in the last three years, over $105 million that could have been money in Memphis, and we need it," said Porter.

Porter says COGIC may be able to squeeze in other events in the Bluff City, but, for now, COGIC's sights are set on St. Louis.
