Road rage incident ends with crash into restaurant

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis man is behind bars on a $500,000 bond after a case of out of control road rage sent a car through a Sonic restaurant.

Brick masons have been out all day Thursday at the drive-in in Olive Branch repairing the huge hole caused by what police are calling a road rage incident gone bad.

The pictures from Olive Branch police show it all – two cars crushed against each other and a large hole in the side of the Sonic Drive-In on Hacks Cross Road.

Police say this accident was caused by one thing.

"Little road rage, honking and stuff like that and then both people ended up here at the Sonic," said Sgt. Ronnie Flanagan.

Police say the road rage started just down Hacks Cross from Sonic.

They say the Memphis man driving the red Hyundai, Lydarris Kirk, began honking at the other family in the Jeep.

After turning into the Sonic, police say Kirk rammed the Jeep, pushing it into the restaurant.

No one was seriously hurt.

"You see it a lot, people honk horns when driving down the road so it can happen at any time to anyone," said Flanagan.

Kirk is charged with aggravated assault and malicious mischief.

Police say he did not know the family in the Jeep.

But officers want to remind you of what you need to know if something like this happens to you.

"Best thing to do is call 911, stay on the phone with dispatchers and let officers know where you're at. Certainly, get out of the way, try to be courteous, drivers need to be courteous," said Flanagan.

Lydarris Kirk is still in the DeSoto County jail.
