(WMC-TV) - A Memphis mother cannot handle much more after her son, described as happy-go-lucky, was shot and killed last year – police say he might not have been the intended target. Family members are desperate for an arrest and answers as the case becomes cold.

Jemarcius White's aunt, Teresa Beard, said he was the apple of the family's eye.

Nicknamed Head and J-Mac, the 17-year-old was walking toward a basketball court inside the Shadowbrook Apartment complex with a couple of friends when a white van pulled up and started shooting.

""Just a random shooting, minding his own business, walking to the basketball court and his life was taken away from him," said Beard.

White was hit in the stomach and leg and declared dead at the hospital July, 8 2011. Family members are certain he was not the intended target. They say he was a good kid.

A year later, the killer is still on the loose and no arrests have been made.

"We are hoping for hope," said aunt Teresa Beard.
