Team Captain Kevin Quick Returns for Second Season with Stingrays

The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has resigned defenseman Kevin Quick. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Quick, 25, registered career-highs in games (64), goals (3) and points (17) with the Stingrays last season and was named the ninth captain in team history on February 11, 2013. The Buffalo, New York, native also skated three games in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Rockford IceHogs adding no points.

"Coming into last season in South Carolina, Spencer gave me a great opportunity and I felt from the first half of the year to the second half I became a much better player," said Quick. "I'm really excited to be coming back to work with a great group of guys and with Spencer." Click here to listen to the full interview.

"It's was one of our top priorities this summer to make sure we had a good core group coming back from last season, and Kevin is a huge part of that," Carbery said. "He played big minutes for us last season in every situation and proved that he can be a top-tiered defenseman at our level."

In 116 career ECHL contests with the Augusta Lynx, Florida Everblades and the Stingrays, Quick totaled 33 points (five goals, 28 assists) and helped the Everblades capture the Kelly Cup Championship in 2012. A third-round (78th overall) draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the 6-foot, 181-pound defenseman appeared in 173 games over three seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, netting 34 points (one goal, 33 assists). On January 13, 2009, the Quick made his NHL debut with the Lightning and skated in six total games earning one assist.
