14-year-old drowns in deep end of swimming pool

(WMC-TV) - A 14-year-old drowned after jumping into the deep end of a swimming pool Sunday.

According to police, the teen and two others were swimming at the Highland Condominiums' pool in Bartlett.

The victim reportedly jumped into an area of the pool that is seven feet deep and panicked. The victim's two friends were pulled under the water as they tried to help.

A man rushed out of a nearby condo after hearing the cries for help and performed CPR until Bartlett police and paramedics arrived.

"Then I saw the ambulance and my mom walked over here, then I walked over here and heard 'Someone's drowning, someone's drowning,'" said Christian Crockett, who witnessed the drowning. "Then I ran over here."

Action News 5 learned the victim's heartbeat was restarted on the way to Methodist North Hospital but he died after being flown to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

It is unclear whether the teen knew how to swim.
