Andy's Got Your Back on a jury duty scam

(WMC TV) - U.S. postal inspectors busted two Pennsylvania suspects stealing credit card numbers in an elaborate jury duty scam.

Authorities arrested, charged and convicted Joseph Dees and Courtney McFeaters on credit card fraud. Surveillance footage captured Dees withdrawing a cash advance with a stolen credit card and McFeaters using stolen credit card numbers to purchase big-ticket items.

Inspectors said the two would call the office managers of busy service companies. Posing as county jury commissioners, they would tell the managers they failed to show for jury duty and they've been fined. They would then request the managers' credit card numbers and personal information to cover the "fines."

With that information, Dees and McFeaters would then contact the victims' credit card companies and request replacement cards and arrange to have them mailed to a post office box or other address.

"They ran up approximately $270,000 in losses in a 6-month period," said U.S. Postal Inspector Brian Plants. "If someone calls you, never give out your personal information to them, because you don't know who is on the other end of the phone call."

Dees and McFeaters served 19 months in prison, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
